Thank You to New York Life

SHORE/ICARE (Sheltering the Homeless is Our Responsibility/Interfaith Council for Affordable Residences, Inc.) is an all-volunteer organization that provides permanent, affordable rental housing for 23 formerly homeless, or near-homeless, families in White Plains, Ardsley, Sleepy Hollow, Yonkers, Mamaroneck, and Larchmont.

Over the 35 years that SHORE/ICARE has been operating, the impact has been obvious. When a family can settle into a permanent home, children are able to continue in one school rather than having to change with each housing move, families can become part of the neighborhood and assistance with basic needs is available through case management services. Part of the success has been that the children can finish high school, some will go on to college, and all may have a better chance at finding good employment after school.

The board of SHORE/ICARE is thrilled to accept a $25,000 Community Impact Grant (CIG) from New York Life through the nomination of our board member, Arlene-Grace Staple, a Financial Professional with New York Life ‘s Greater New York General Office.

The Community Impact Grant is given to a non-profit organization where an agent or employee supports their leadership involvement with local philanthropic organizations, which meet compelling needs in their communities. This grant will support SHORE/I CARE’s permanent affordable housing program, which helps 90+ individuals – currently 23 families – maintain safe, affordable housing and get access to wrap-around support services so they can focus on pursuing their choices for education, work, and fulfillment, thereby increasing self-sufficiency.

This generous grant will also provide funds for needed renovations to our properties and help us to continue providing case management services to our families. The need for affordable, permanent housing in our community has become even more prevalent during the pandemic, and we are very grateful for this recognition and support from New York Life.
